Description

Prabhakar Ganpat Sirur(1907-2000) was known for his expressive illustrations which featured in covers of reputed English and Marathi magazines. He was the first Indian illustrator appointed at The Times of India.

Sirur studied at the Sir J. J School of Art where he was  the recipient of many scholarshios and awards. He finished his Diploma in drawing and painting by 1928. Sirur initially painted in the Revivalist school but gradually his work shifted towards illustrative painting inspired by Western illustrators like W. S. Bagdatopoulos. He was a skilled lanscape and portrait painter.
