Description

Two rare original photographs depicting characters Dushasana and Draupadi from a film shoot of the movie 'Jugari Dharm' by noted Marathi filmmaker, playwriter and novelist Bhargavaram Vitthal Varerkar (1883-1964) also known as Mama Varerkar.

Varerkar was born in Chiplun, Maharashtra. He attended high schools in Malvan, Dapoli and Ratnagiri. He left his studies before graduation and worked for a while as a postal clerk, then migrated to Mumbai. Varerkar wrote plays with historic, mythological and social themes; he wrote many novels, short stories and film scripts. His writings strongly reflected his empathy for laborers under the dominance of their employers and the plight of women under male dominance.
